Description:  Classifieds script to work with PMD main directory.

Note:  You can not re-sell this modification or use it as a base for other modifications and sell it.

3BConfiguration

1. Create a folder called ‘classifieds’ in the root folder of your main directory

2. Copy to the “classifieds” folder a new fresh copy of  PMD.  (you could copy your current files as well). Make sure you copy the “install” folder from PMD.  

3. Copy to the classifieds template folder the template you are using in your main site

4. To  actually install to new copy of PMD you need to know the following:

4.1. Database name

4.2. Database user id

4.3. Database user id’s password

4.4. Database table prefix

4.5. PMD license number

All these information can be found on the defaults.php file on your main directory

5. For the installation of the classifieds instance, you must use the same database that you are using for your main directory BUT YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE TABLE PREFIX FOR THE CLASSIFIEDS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE TABLE PREFIX FOR THE MAIN DIRECTORY.   If you fail to make them differently, you will delete every single record in your main directory.  Install the classifieds directory by going to  : http://your-url/classifieds/install

From now on any reference to the directory refers to your new directory in the classifieds folder

After PMD installed has been installed on the classifieds folder, continue as follows:

6. Defaults.php

6.1. Single Login

We recommend that you have a single login between your main site and your classifieds. It is less confusing for users.   To have a single login open the defaults_setup.php of your classifieds directory and locate this line :

define('T_USERS',, DB_TABLE_PREFIX.'users');

Find out what’s the prefix of you’re the tables on your main directory.  

And then replace in the following lines the prefix with the prefix of the main directory

define('T_USERS', 'MainClassifiedsPrefix_users');

define('T_USERS_GROUPS', ' MainClassifiedsPrefix _users_groups');

define('T_USERS_GROUPS_LOOKUP', ' MainClassifiedsPrefix _users_groups_lookup');

define('T_USERS_LOGIN_FAILS', ' MainClassifiedsPrefix _users_login_fails');

define('T_USERS_PERMISSIONS', ' MainClassifiedsPrefix _users_permissions');

define('T_USERS_GROUPS_PERMISSIONS_LOOKUP', ' MainClassifiedsPrefix _users_groups_permissions_lookup');

Where mainclassifieds  is the prefix of the main  directory

Upload defaults_setup.php

7. On the distribution folder, open the file

classifieds/new files/bcg/classifieds/classifieds.config.php

Enter the URL o f the main directory and the url o the classifieds directory

copy the file to

main directory/new files/bcg/main_classifieds/classifieds.config.php

8. Upload the contents of the new-files folder that you will find in our zip file  to the ‘classifieds’ folder

9. Execute the install program with :

http://your-url/classifieds/bcg/classifieds/classifieds.install.php

10.- Upload the contents of the Main_directory/new_files  folder to the root of your main directory

http://your-url/bcg/classifieds/classifieds.install.php

Where your-url is the URL of your main site.

6BConfiguration

1. - Membership Configuration recommendations

The following configuration of classifieds is based on best Practices to get the most out of your system.

1.- Add custom field Group and Custom field

Go to TOOLS, then to FIELD EDITOR, then click on ADD FIELD GROUP.

Make up a name for the group and enter it.

Click on the “ADD FIELD” icon ( ) on the right hand side (is next to the )

Add a field for PHONE

2.-  Picture

Go to CONFIGURATION, then LANGUAGES, then  PHRASES FIND & REPLACE

Change “Logo” for “Picture” as follows:

3.- Create memberships

Create Membership type  1 - Free

Category limit : 1

Check the following fields:

Create Membership type  2 - PREMIUM

Category limit : 1

Check the following fields:

Address ,  Zip, e-mail , e-mail friend, Phone,Map, Print, Picture, website

Yu can add other features like images, but you should keep it simple. You don’t want to compete with your main site.

4.- Create Product Group  and Products

Go to CONFIGURATION  then PRODCUST AND SERVICES

Then ADD PRODUCT GROUP.

Finally ADD PRODUCT

Call it free

Description Free Classifieds

Select the free listing type

Then  add another product call it PREMIUM

Select the premium membership type

5.- Add pricing

For the Free type:

Price : 0 (zero)

We suggest 2 months  (you can reduce this to one month later)

For the Premium type.

The price must be very low.  As low as $2 to $5 dollars.  After all they are only getting to add one picture and preferential listing.

You want to bring traffic to your site and the classifieds help but the entry cost to your system must be low if you want people to actually sign up.

6.- Categories

Some suggested categories are:

- Houses and Apartments for rent

- Houses for sale

- Cars

- Household items

- Office and business merchandise
